Having amassed impressive advances and foreign-rights deals, Tunnels, by Roderick Gordon and Brian Williams is being touted as the next big thing. Philip Ardagh grabs his shovel and prepares to brave the perils that lurk in a subterranean city. Although it seems unlikely that any book in the history of the universe will ever reach the truly dizzying heights that Potter has, Tunnels does have the potential to be the start of something big (even if the start of the book itself might have benefited from being somewhat shorter). In Tunnels, 14-year-old Will Burrows and his friend Chester Rawls discover an underground city.

Pellucidar it isn't but there is another world in the center of the Earth that is lit by a tiny, eternal sun. It is populated by a now primitive race of pyramid builders, colonists from the German Third Reich and some people we have been following as they roam the realms of the underworld. As our group of protagonists are divided, we must follow many story lines at once and they are all gripping in their urgency. Some characters are killed, some are damaged, some are maturing, some are truly insane and dangerous. The more we learn about the different factions' struggles for power makes readers wonder just what might be best for planet Earth. This is a book you will not want to put down. Enjoy!

this books is an excellent read. i was exposed to this series by a friend who happened about the second book in a discount store. she saw it and said she thought i might enjoy it so in guilt i read it. i didn't want her to think i was wasting her money and after reading the second book i was intrigued. i immediately bought the first book, quickly followed by the third, having previously read the second. anyway the sum things up after finishing the third book i was ready to know what happened but the 4th book had not even been published at that point. so waiting for it to come to fruition it feel into obscurity in my mind and i missed the release date. it wasn't until the fifth book in the series came out that i decided to buy them both and hence this review. if your looking for a light read i would recommend this book. its not complex for older readers such as myself but i would recommend it to anyone but especially children.

This is the 4th book in the Tunnels series. The whole series is a good read. There are about 7 subplots that are developed by this time, so the story doesn't drag, plus this gives ample opportunity for more 3 dimensional characters and action.

I picked this series out in the library without knowing anything about it.
I was immediately hooked on the entire series. Although the last installment, Terminal, was released already in the UK, we here in the USA have to wait until October. I am anticipating it to be as great as the rest of the series!

Good book. Lots of twists and turns. The valley of the second Sun and the hollow earth theory were especially interesting. The underground WWII era German city they stumbled upon was very imaginative. Best book in the series yet by far.

This book is as fun as the rest of the series is to read. The writer keeps my attention as well as draws me into the book. I am able to get so wrapped up in the story that I feel what the characters are feeling. This is a great series based on the novel idea of life within the earth.

Great book see my reviews on others in this series
My daughter has been hooked on this series from the first chapter of the first book (Tunnels). It is a page turner and we often have a hard time getting her to put it down.
