This book arrived on time and as advertised. It is soul-searching and deeply challenging to a person seeking God's will for their life. I highly recommend it.

A Holy Ambition: To Preach Where Christ Has Not Been Named
John Piper

Just short of 160 pages plus scripture index and table of contents, the book is a series of lectures and sermons that are compiled into 6 categories including an introduction, three parts, a conclusion, and an appendix. In the book, Mr. Piper describes a gospel-centered view of missions and its proper place in the Christian Church.

The book covers topics such as God's glory, God's command to the church to preach the gospel throughout the world to reach all people groups, and the costs and blessings of missions. He makes the claim that God desires to have His name preached throughout the world to draw to Himself people from every nation that He would be glorified. He also states that those of us who are not missionaries have the duty to preach Christ where we are and to send missionaries.

In the book, Mr. Piper refers to some studies concerning the number of unreached people groups. These are defined as people who have not heard the gospel, do not have an active Christian presence (e.g. less than 2% Christians), or do not have the Bible in their native language and discusses the need to reach all people with the message of Jesus Christ's death, burial, and resurrection to pay for their sins as well as ours.

Overall, I believe the book is a worthwhile read for any Christian who has considered the importance of the gospel and the role of cross-cultural missions in God's vision for the church.
