Arrangement and Types of Bacterial Flagella The number and location of flagella are distinctive for each genus. The flagella of these bacteria help the bacteria by propelling up the urethra into the bladder. There are four types of flagellar arrangement. Monotrichous (Mono means one): Single polar flagellum . Vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter spp. (polar flagella often in pairs to give a seagull appearance). Amphitrichous: Single flagellum at both ends . Alcaligenes faecalis (Mneomonics: Remember: the characteristics of Amphibians: live both in land and water). Roles in Organism identification. Some species of bacteria, eg.

In their discussion of flagellation these authors admitted that the single flagellum might be a fascicle such as. .Migula, in 1900, separated the genus Spirillum Ehrenberg from the other spiral bacteria on the basis of motility by means of tufts of polar flagella.

In their discussion of flagellation these authors admitted that the single flagellum might be a fascicle such as had been mentioned and illustrated by AMigula (1900). They justified their description of the six species as having a single flagellum on the fact that only a single flagellum could be seen in living cells of the larger species when the cells were observed by phase contrast. Mligula mentioned the fact that the tuft, in certain species, was often agglutinated into a fascicle which appeared as a single flagellum in flagellar stain preparations.

Artificial bacterial flagella are nonbiological structures whose design is based on that of bacterial flagella

Artificial bacterial flagella are nonbiological structures whose design is based on that of bacterial flagella. They are actually metallic and consist of two parts: a square, flat head and a helical tail. Some flagellated species exhibit other modes of swimming, such as unidirectional rotation punctuated by occasional stops (Rhodobacter sphaeroides) or regulated variations in motor speed (Sinorhizobium meliloti) (Armitage and Schmitt, 1997).

Some bacteria are rare, the others very dangerous or may be obligate intracellular parasite, all of the mentioned cases need to study these bacteria by pictures in addition to the theoretical information, therefore I dedicate this work to everyone can get any benefit from it. Msc.
