Considering the number of books, fiction and non, published about Salem, not many have tried

Katherine Howe weaves her story with the finesse of a practiced writer, not someone who's just published her first novel. Something about this book pulled me in, though, and it didn't let go of me until I finished it just now. I loved this book. Considering the number of books, fiction and non, published about Salem, not many have tried. But Howe makes us invest in so much more than just the Salem-ness of the tale.

It's so easy
I admit that I enjoyed this book. The main story is set in 1991 when a woman named Connie Goodwin finds a Book of Physick [sic] among her grandmother's possessions. Upon reading the book, Connie learns things about her family history, such as their direct tie into the 1692 Salem Witchcraft Trials.

Connie finds a document inscribed with the name of Deliverance Dane, which piques her curiosity. In trying to uncover the truth about her ancestor, Connie finds out about her family's deeply entrenched involvement in the Salem Witch Trials, including a Spell Book that belonged to Deliverance Dane. Questions crop up - why are others so determined to get that book and document? Just who was Deliverance Dane and her daughter Mercy? And what spells if any work? Did Deliverance Dane have anything to do with the outbreak of bizarre behavior in Salem? And did she survive the trials? What about her daughter, Mercy?

The story as is Conversion interspersed with Interludes and concludes with a Postlude, each voiced by characters who were directly impacted by the Salem Witch Trials. Deliverance Dane was a known healer and was later brought to trial when a child under her care died of unrelated cause. The Book of Physick was passed on through the daughters in the Dane family lineage until...1991!

I enjoyed this book and found it very interesting as I find the Salem trials a very interesting, albeit tragic period in history.

As other reviewers noted, "The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane" is this same book marketed under a different title.

The George Harrison song "The Art of Dying" could well underscore this book in re the trials.

I was kind of disappointed when I received the book, The Lost Book of Salem, not because it wasn't a good book or that I did not receive the book promptly, but because it was the EXACT SAME book as The Physic Book of Deleverance Dane, which I had recently read. The reason I ordered The Lost Book of Salem in the first place was because it was by the same author, Katherine Howe, and I throughly enjoyed The Physic Book of Deliverance Dane. So it was my fault for not checking things out before I ordered. However I did feel douped. Why was this book released under two different titles?
Whether you read The Lost Book of Salem or The Physic Book of Deliverance Dane, I do recommend this book. It is well written and well researched. I couldn't put it down. I would like to read more books by this author, especially in this genera.

Well written. Very interesting book. Fiction but I learned a lot of interesting historical facts.

Like The Ghost Lady previously wrote, I was very unpleasantly surprised to find this is the same book as her Deliverance Dane book, just with a different name. It seems this is the UK version. I am extremely unhappy with Amazon for allowing this. I just wish Ghost Lady's review had been only a few days sooner so I could have seen it before ordering this book. Huge thumbs down for Amazon on this purchase. Amazon should be the one informing the public about this title.

Its a good read. So far, not my absolute favorite novel of the burning times ("The Physic Book of Deliverance Dane"), but still a good read.

The Lost Book of Salem was a very interesting book that ties the Salem Witch trials to the present time. It was also extremely fascinating to learn that the author herself was related to someone from the Witch Trials. It is a great book to read if you are interested in the Witch Trials and a little bit of magic.
I read this book under the title "Physick Book of Deliverance Dane", it was so good! I had this book in my wishlist, and when I received it, I realized I had already read it.. no matter though, it's worth it!
