Forced to travel by train, he begins a journey of rude awakenings, thrilling adventures and holiday. It was nearing Christmas, and Tom’s most pressing dilemma was getting from the East Coast to Los Angeles for the holidays. He had an age-old motivation for the journey; in LA was his girlfriend, Lelia Gibson. She’d started out as a movie actress, but after years of appearing in third-rate horror films she’d begun doing voiceover work.

The Christmas Train I bought on impulse partly because it's Christmastime and I wanted to have the last book I read for 2018 be a Christmas story. I can happily say I made a very good choice. The story is great, the characters are great and the writing is great. Honestly I can't find anything wrong with this book! Seriously! Baldacci does an excellent job of developing all of his characters throughout the book and he makes you remember them well after you finished reading.

The Christmas Train has a great story line and is heartwarming. I am always looking for a light hearted Christmas book around the holidays and I want the audio book so I can listen while I decorate, bake, etc. David Baldacci brings romance, mystery and a wonderful holiday story to The Christmas Train. He also throws in enough to information about train travel to make me want to learn more. I'll most likely listen to it every year at the holidays.

The Christmas Train book. The Christmas Train is filled with memorable characters who have packed their bags with as much wisdom as mischief. and shows how we do get second chances to fulfill our deepest hopes and dreams, especially during this season of miracles.

Now, the train is his only option to get to Los Angeles for Christmas to be with his girlfriend. Thereupon begins one of the most hilarious-and heartwarming-train rides ever. Along the way Tom encounters mechanical failures, derailments, and eccentric characters like Agnes Joe, who rides trains all the time, though no one knows why.

THE train depot was festooned for Christmas. ANNA hung back as her mother bought the train ticket. She’d heard her on the phone last night, cursing out the person who’d told her a child of ten wasn’t allowed to travel on the train without an adult. Garlands looped above the ticket counter. A huge wreath hung over the wide arched entrance to the station’s platforms, and a pair of lighted trees, flocked white and laden with shiny red ornaments, flanked the information and security booth. It’s costing me an extra forty-four dollars for a regular ticket, all because of their stupid rules, she’d raged. Forty-four damn dollars for nothing.

Scores of holiday Christmas train rides around the country offer rite-of-passage journeys that are complete with Christmas .

Scores of holiday Christmas train rides around the country offer rite-of-passage journeys that are complete with Christmas treats, music and, of course, Santa. Let your kids wear their pajamas for their meeting with Santa. Don’t miss the best Christmas town in every state.

If there’s one type of train books for kids I’ve delighted in collecting more than the others, it’s been Christmas train books.

This Christmas season, sit back, relax, and enjoy a scenic view on one of America's best holiday train rides. Another winter activity that many people look forward to every December is a Christmas train ride. Companies and railroads around the country offer the experience, but these 15 Christmas train rides are the most magical thanks to their views, charm, on-board entertainment and more.

In this wonderful story (now featured on the Hallmark Channel), Journalist Tom Langdon has traveled the world reporting breaking news. Lelia Gibson does voice over work on popular cartoons. The two had met on a plane and quickly became very close friends. Now, Thomas decides to ride the train from the East Coast to the West Coast in time to meet Lelia for a ski trip. But things rapidly change when he finds the only woman he ever loved is also on the same train. It's a trip which will change his life and values forever. Read this wonderful story and then watch the movie on Hallmark. It will be great to see all the characters you'll adore in this story. Highly recommend.

For any of you readers that have read more than two or three books by any one author, I'm sure you've noticed the books can get to be the same basic stories told differently. I've read several Baldacci's. In general, he does well at staying away from a formulaic writing style but this book is completely different than anything he's ever done! A really great read especially at this time of year. A story without a dead body.....or drugs.....or government operatives. It was good enough that I had trouble putting it down! Left me with a good feeling! One caveat, this is a love story.

All aboard! The Christmas Train will fill you up with the spirit of Christmas magic, with a side of mystery, and intrigue. It's a story about love, discovering who you are, and what really matters. It's a story about second chances that will make you believe in miracles!

"It's not the beginning or the destination that counts. It's the ride in between." —David Baldacci, The Christmas Train

"They say that during the week of Christmas any miracle is possible!" —David Baldacci, The Christmas Train

"It takes spirit and faith and passion to really believe. Like most things worthwhile in life, you get back what you put into it. Only with faith, you get back a lot more." —David Baldacci, The Christmas Train

I wasn't quite sure what to expect in this book. I had read a few of this author 's books before and found them to be excellent reads, but the wit, humor, romance, twists and turns, mystery, drama, and the surprise ending in this story...WOW! It was like experiencing a whole different side of Baldacci!!!! I was dumbfounded, to say the least! With plenty of laugh-out-loud parts throughout the book, I just couldn't believe how much fun this book was to read!!!!! Do yourself a favor and buy this book!!!!! Mr. Baldacci, I applaud you for this wonderful train trip that you took your readers on!!!!! You REALLY need to write more stories like this one- I would buy all of them!

A bit sappy and sentimental? Yup. As it should be - it's Christmas! It's a good story with a couple of good twists. But mostly it's a sweet read that will make you think about taking a journey by train. And it will make you wonder if such larger-than-life characters really exist. And it will make you hope - hope that such folk do exist, and hope that you can meet them.

I was not rivetted to the book as I was reading it for Book Club. However, it was an enjoyable easy read with a definite Christmas and folksy emphasis. There were many interesting characters to follow, with a love-sick main character, Tom, taking a train ride, hoping to meet up in California with his "friend with benefits" for some cavorting in Tahoe anticipated. He finds that he has a distant connection to Mark Twain (Samuel Clemons) who also reportedly took a Christmas train ride. Tom is an internationally acclaimed writer and has promised his dying father that he will write a story about a Christmas Train ride to honor Twain.. But on the train his current girlfriend finds him and he also finds a long lost love who has obviously never forgiven him. The train has some minor and major problems that slows it down. And some of the characters are revealed as not being who they say they are nor for what purpose they are on the train. The overall plot was predictable, but numerous surprises kept the book interesting and enjoyable.
I loved this departure from David Baldacci's usual style of novel. I read his work as soon as I can get to it on Kindle, and am in fact reading End Game now. The Christmas Train has a great story line and is heartwarming. I try to never give any alerts in my reviews, so I will just leave you with the two thoughts I've just listed. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
