Many thanks to the author and his spouse for the decades of research and hard work that went into producing such a special and unique guidebook. I keep it always within reach. Our definitions of gunkholing diverge just a bit, but in principle we are on the same page. Naturally he sees everything from a sailor's eye and I no longer do. A gunkhole does not need to be an anchorage and some of the best gunkholes ever, are not anchorage's at all. If you think about it, "gunk" denotes "muck" which Is not holding ground and thus of no value as an anchorage. A hole in the mangroves that allows a boat in, but which for one reason or another (exposure, holding ground, insects, tide issues) is still a gunkhole in my mind, whether one could anchor there or not. Nevertheless, buy this book and use it, no matter what your definition of a gunkhole is.
