The team was founded in November 1951 by Edinburgh businessman and racing driver David Murray and mechanic Wilkie Wilkinson, its most notable achievement was winning both the 1956 and 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team also raced in three Formula One races. Ecurie Ecosse's cars were always distinctive in their Flag Blue Metallic paint.

It was designed by the aeronautical engineer Selby Howgate and the bodywork was done by bus builders Alexander’s of Falkirk. The eight vintage vehicles include the team’s famous double-decker car transporter, which inspired a much-loved Corgi toy. Bonhams are unwilling to quote individual estimates for the vehicles. But they expect the London sale on December 1 to realise more than £5million. There are two sports racing Jaguars up for grabs, a 1953 C-Type and a 1956 D-Type.
