This is the second book in the "Marvel Novel Series", although it isn't labeled as such. It stars the Hulk, which was a logical choice, since the Hulk was on a popular television show at the time. However, this book is based on the comic book version of the Hulk, not the television version. That is to say: it is "Bruce" Banner, not "David", and the Hulk can talk and is much more powerful. Also, some of the comic book supporting characters are in the book; Rick Jones, Thunderbolt Ross and Clay Quartermain. However, Bruce Banner's love interest, Betty Ross, is not in the book. Anyway, this is an enjoyable book if you are a fan of the Hulk.

Well, its hard to review a novel which was one of the first to be written about characters originating in comic books, and which had to appeal to this audience. Especially when you discover it 32 years later, and 100 prose novels (about those comic characters) on.

So - yes, it could have tried harder to be like a prose novel, with fewer actual comic terms such as Kabam! - that truly belong in jagged boxes. But the characterisation must perforce be derivative and familiar and the plot, essentially a comic book plot, with an unremarkable and therefore ultimately disposable villain. But the familiar, while unadventurous, is warm and cosy and the writing is not bad at all, and it reads fast (a two day read with the day job on top) and its cheerful after a sluggish start. No major shocks or character developments.

There. You have to be kind to old furniture after all this time. After all, I could have got very, very angry about it, and then, Mark SMASH! So chill and enjoy.

Wow, this is a very enjoyable Comic, I mean Novel! Ha, no seriously I can't decide what to call it, being a long time Hulk fan and reading over about 1000 of the comics, I found my mind subconsciously referring to the comics when there was lack of any detailed-descriptions. The writing was in a much faster pace with little dialog done comic-book style but the novel seems to rely somewhat on imagery pictures and an establish background for the main characters (General Ross, Quatermain, Rick Jone). All in all this is a great and almost seamless transaction from comic to novel, not forgetting it's comic origins yet telling a new and adventuress story in a Novelistic way, if your a Hulk fan this is a must.
