The book is very entertaining and contains great, colorful photos, but I found some of the information to be faulty or questionable. Fassett writes under a photo of Dustin Hoffman on page 55 that the picture was taken in the late 70's before he made it in the movies. Dustin Hoffman had been in several big films before the late 70's such as The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, Lenny, All the President's Men, Papillion, and more. Another thing I question is when he relays the details of a car accident in his younger years in which he and his buddies go off a cliff while speeding on a canyon road on the west coast. The car, he says, rolled over about eight times till it came to a rest in a bush below. Neither he nor the driver were hurt except for a scratch on the driver. Hmm. okay, maybe. But Fassett does state that he wrote the book at seventy-three and has trouble remembering dates and places so I'll cut him some slack, as if he needs it from me:) I enjoyed the book very much.

Having been born in the 80's and only learning to knit in 2004, I didn't know or understand much about Kaffe Fassett's work, besides that all his sweaters had the baggy shaping of the 80's that I so detested.

I picked up this book because I had read The Day of The Peacock, put out by the V&A, and he was in it because he had modeled for British Vogue. It also turned out he was friends (and as I learned later reading Dreaming In Color, partners) with Bill Gibb. So, that piqued my interest in him enough to learn more about who he is and how he got into knitwear in the first place.

I found Dreaming In Color to be a joy to read - He has a great voice in print, and had some amazing "Things I Learned The Hard Way" pieces of advice sprinkled very naturally throughout the book. What a life! By the end of the book I wanted to cover every surface of our house in either murals or mosaics. Definitely inspiring for any artist who has been held back at times by fear of the unknown or, for some us, the under-funded.

The book also gave me a real respect for Kaffe Fassett's eye and his work across several different media. While I am no warmer to his shaping now than I was at the start, I am at this point totally in love with his use of color and in awe of his mastery of intarsia and fair isle. I ended up purchasing two of his classics - Glorious Knits and Glorious Interiors - along with his and Brandon Mably's latest book, Knitting With the Color Guys. All three, definitely worth it.

So, if you're on the fence, I say go for it. His life is such a snapshot of the late 20th century art heyday that for at bare minimum that reason, you won't be disappointed. (And his opinion of Andy Warhol is both accurate and hilarious!)

I have a rug hooking studio, and often get stuck on color planning. Especiallly since I tend to do little planning up front and let it evolve, shame on me. I like vibrant color, and Kaffe Fassett provides lots of ideas and inspirations. Great illustrations.

Kaffe Fassett introduces us to his unusual family and his liberal and liberating childhood. His life has been rich in inspirational experiences that is reflected in his colourful art. I couldn't put the book down. The pages are full of the wonderful colour combinations that Kaffe works with and is inspired by. I have always admired the way he can see colour everywhere and interpret that into his art. While I was reading this book,I would wake up in the morning, having spent the night dreaming of the glorious colours that were in the book. It is a beautiful book that will be picked up time and time again for the beauty and inspiration that is inside it.

I haven't yet finished reading this book, but I am REALLY enjoying it. Partly, he grew up close to where I grew up. But he just seems to know sooo many famous people. And he nicely describes his career path as an artist.

As an artist and knitter, I appreciate the work of this very gifted artist. I enjoyed reading about his life and seeing the progression of his work over a period of years.
I love seeing the work of others which inspires me in approaches to color and pattern. It puts me in the mood to work and create! I recommend it as a beautiful book to read, or just the turn the pages again and again...

Also - this book was very well packaged and shipped quickly!

I bought this because I was curious about his colors and knitting but then saw the drawings and paintings of California. For those people lucky enough to have visited Nepenthe in Big Sur, this is some wonderful firsthand history. I'm still reading and haven't gotten to London yet. I'm enjoying the non conformist colorful joy of this book.
Very fast shipping; great book, excellent seller! Thank you
