Edward Ranson, Roy C. Bridges (Foreword). A reassessment of the political style and acumen of Calvin Coolidge during the 1924 presidential campaign, this study analyzes the presidential election campaign following the national conventions and discusses organizational and financial difficulties, and the popularity and impact of opinion polls and of radio.

The presidency of Calvin Coolidge began on August 2, 1923, when Calvin Coolidge became President of the United States upon the sudden death of Warren G. Harding, and ended on March 4, 1929. A Republican from Massachusetts, Coolidge had been Vice President of the United States for 2 years, 151 days when he became the 30th President of the United States. Elected to a full four–year term in 1924, Coolidge gained a reputation as a small-government conservative

Vice President Calvin Coolidge became president in nineteen . But his silence hid a fighting political spirit

Vice President Calvin Coolidge became president in nineteen twenty-three following the death of President Warren Harding. Coolidge quickly gained the trust of most Americans by investigating the crimes of Harding's top officials. The conservative economic policies of the new president also won wide support. Coolidge had one year to prove his abilities to the American people before the election of nineteen twenty-four. This week in our series, Kay Gallant and Harry Monroe tell us about that election. But his silence hid a fighting political spirit. Coolidge had worked for many years to gain the White House. He would not give it up without a struggle.

The United States presidential election of 1924 was the 35th quadrennial .

The United States presidential election of 1924 was the 35th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 4, 1924. Incumbent President Calvin Coolidge, the Republican candidate, was elected to a second, full term. Coolidge had been vice-president under Warren G. Harding and became president in 1923 when Harding died during his term in office.

Coolidge won the 1924 election easily. LaFollette won only Wisconsin, his home state. The American people voted for Coolidge partly to thank him for bringing back honesty and trust to the White House following the crimes of the Harding administration. But the main reason was that they liked his conservative economic policies and his support of business. LaFollette's Progressive Party died following the 1924 election.

In this two-volume study of the US presidential elections of 1924, Ranson (U. of Aberdeen, UK) focuses on the experience of Calvin Coolidge and the Republicans, devoting the entirety of the first volume to analysis of Coolidge's political actions following his 1923 assumption of the presidency; Coolidge' Republican rivals for the nomination, Henry Ford and Hiram W. Johnson; executive-congressional relations and its impact on the Coolidge campaign; the results of the Republican state conventions and presidential primaries; and the events of the Republican convention in Cleveland, Ohio. In the second volume he discusses the campaigns of the Democrats and the Progressives; explores the events and strategies of the general presidential campaign, and analyzes the outcome (an unexpected landslide victory for Coolidge).
