I just purchased the immunoMnemonics flash cards and have to admit I am already disappointed

Only 6 left in stock (more on the way). I just purchased the immunoMnemonics flash cards and have to admit I am already disappointed. In fact, I found the cards quite convoluted. This wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if the descriptions on each cards were clear and well-explained. However, a lot of the mnemonics and illustrations actually making the material more confusing.

This first book to cover this new topic at the interface of cell biology, immunology and infection biology offers a unique insight as to how the innate and possibly the adaptive immune system are shaped by cellular mechanisms. Following a comprehensive introduction to autophagy, the work features cellular mechanisms and medical implications, structured according to all major pathogens, while also covering emerging infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis.

Immunological memory is the ability of the immune system to quickly and specifically recognize an antigen that the body has previously encountered and initiate a corresponding immune response. Generally these are secondary, tertiary and other subsequent immune responses to the same antigen. Immunological memory is responsible for the adaptive component of the immune system, special T and B cells - the so-called memory T and B cells. Immunological memory is the basis of vaccination.

I got the notecards while studying for step 1 and I wish I had had them during the school year. Everyone I have shown them to loves them. The big thing is that these are to help you understand and grasp the overwhelming complexity that is immunology. Immunology is not easy. It might be if you are awesome at flat out memorization but I'm not.

Woven throughout these notecards is a love story going on between the different cells of the immune cells. I'm sure that it isn't for everyone, but it's a great thing to use on a study night with a bunch of friends. It becomes exponentially more dirty the more medical students you add to the review session. There is a lot of pulling on legs to and exciting of the different cells. It finally made immunology stick for me instead of appearing to just be a bunch of random cells with these numbers on them. I'm not sure why the negative reviewers dislike them so much. They are repetitive, but that helps me learn the info, and different cells follow the same pathways so some cards may have very similar pathways described one after another.

Bottom line is if you are okay with following the immune system cells on a journey of being... catfish, lovers, attack jet fighter, and lots of other fish, lobsters, etc get these cards. If you prefer the droll monotony of your immunology notes stick with them instead.

I couldn't have made it through Immuno without these cards !! Highly recommended !

They are very well organized and the goofy animations / stories really help you remember otherwise dry and confusing material.

They don't go in to great detail on the molecular biology of immuno, but it makes sens of the big picture and how all the parts work together.... Makes an excellent companion to the text.

I was head over heals for the pharmnemonic series, so I bought these on a whim to help me brush up on immunology for the boards. I wish I had these cards when I originally had to learn these for Micro and Path. Full color cards with great memory tools for those tedious CD proteins and interleukins... great mnemonics for the autoimmune diseases, complement pathways, hypersensitivities, as well as a plethora of cards detailing all of the "players" of the immune system.

This has been a real help studying for the boards.

The quality of the paper on which the cards are printed is not as good as the pharmnemonics, but having all of the cards in full color more than makes up for it.

At first I loved these...but then I was trying to learn from them and they just made things more confusing. Sure, they are cute, but most of the mnemonics are so much of a stretch that it is easier to memorize the actual immunology than the mnemonics. Oh well, worth a shot, but I don't recommend you waste your money.

I bought the microbiology version by h. shen, which is million times better. Didn't like these cards at all, and they don't come in a box. This plastic wrapper instead. You need a box for cards. The context of the cards are not as good as the microbiology. I recommend you stick with pharm and micro for h. shen. Don't bother with the immuno.

I just purchased the immunoMnemonics flash cards and have to admit I am already disappointed. As a visual learner, I purchased these cards with the assumption that they would allow for more efficient immunology review. In fact, I found the cards quite convoluted. This wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if the descriptions on each cards were clear and well-explained. However, a lot of the mnemonics and illustrations actually making the material more confusing. Unfortunately, I can't recommend these cards either as a learning tool or for review.
