American writer, educator, theologian, and feminist pioneer EMMA CURTIS HOPKINS (1849-1925) may well be the most important woman in the history of religion in the United States. Influenced by Mary Baker Eddy and her "Christian Science," Hopkins developed the more metaphysical philosophy of New Thought, an early "New Age" outlook that encouraged its adherents to tap the latent powers of their potent minds. In this 1888 book, considered by many one of the greatest works of mysticism every written, Hopkins encourages us all to live life with a greater awareness of the mystery and power of the universe as it is seen through the wisdom of Jesus Christ.

Emma Curtis Hopkins (September 2, 1849 – April 8, 1925 age 75) was an American spiritual author and leader. She was involved in organizing the New Thought movement and was a primary theologian, teacher, writer, feminist, mystic, and prophet who ordained hundreds of people, including women, at what she named (with no tie to Christian Science) the Christian Science Theological Seminary of Chicago.

The Studies in High Mysticism contain her latest writings, the full bloom of her spiritual unfoldment. They are acknowledged to be among the finest examples of Mystical writings. Mrs. Hopkins was herself a Mystic, a Mystic of a new type. She sang the song of the Life triumphant over loss, pain, sickness, poverty, sin and death, and the joy that comes from living the Christ Life. Here we have no identifying with suffering and grief, but the fuller doctrine of Jesus Christ-the rise from ignorance to the Liberty of the Sons of God! This book is spiritual dynamite

This slim but potent book is a companion study to the much more in-depth and comprehensive HIGHER MYSTICISM by the same author, Emma Curtis Hopkins. The chapters, all 12 of them, follow a handy format. First, a list of Bible verses related to the chapter content. Verses are from the King James Version and should not pose too much difficulty in understanding their messages. Then Hopkins develops particularly focused themes or subjects. Her insight is keen and relevant. This is one book you'll want to read again and again, then dip back into the more difficult HIGHER MYSTICISM to round out your joy-bound experience.

This book is the workbook for "High Mysticism". I find reading "Christian Science Mental Practice", "High Mysticism", "Resume" and EMC's "Bible Interpretations" adds more and more refinement to each Chapter and subject. Her teaching follows logically the same order in each volume, but is presented from a different angle. It is impossible to put these books down if you are a true student of the subject.

Scientific Christian Mental Practice sets forth many spiritual laws, ideas and axioms. This book is largely devoid of the same. To me it is academic discourse rather that setting forth spiritual tools with practical use and application, of which SCMP abounds.

This is considered the highest, most lofty, more spiritually enlightened of Emma Curtis Hopkins' writings. Certainly it takes an advanced mind to share eternal wisdom but equally, also, the same kind of mind to comprehend all of it. The work is in 12 chapters and each one hits on a theme which she shares prior to the chapter's beginning. I found her writing style a mirror of her time, with its rich symbolism and references to other spiritual teachers and truths. Each chapter appears to be the result of time spent in meditation, and the outpouring that is revealed to you comes more or less as a flow of insights, as in free verse. Not easy for anyone; however, her companion book Resume provides directives to cement her brilliant teaching intents.

The depth and breadth of the author's knowledge is stunning. The spiritual lessons are important and still relevant for today. The poetry of her writing is delightful. Definitely needs reading slowly and repeatedly to glean all the nuggets.
