Overall I think this book is suitable for the average person who is taking an entry-level Biology class. It is written in such a way where it makes potentially complicated subjects easier to understand, but unfortunately this is also where its weakness lies. To give you an example, When our class was studying chlorophyll/cellular respiration the diagrams were oversimplified to the point where our professor had to give her own diagram to the class, so I had to dock one star for that bit.

I wanted to detract .5 of a star for personal taste (I prefer a more technical approach to the sciences with less fluff, which this book wasn't meant for that kind of student or professor), but it didn't seem fair to give this book an even lower score when the author really tries to get the average person interested in Biology. It is also important to note that I haven't went through the entire book (since my summer class does not cover all chapters).

Overall, I's a decent book that deserves a pollice verso in the upward position.

As much as I hated taking this course, I found the book to be an extremely helpful tool. I like that the authors use lots of diagrams and analogies to help students understand the concepts. I'm the type of person who likes to have something explained to me in very simple terms first, and then learn the details afterwards, and this book presents information that way. Of course, all courses and students are different, but for me, I exclusively studied the book (didn't even attend lecture) and still ended up with a high B.

This book was one of my requirements to read for my biology class. The book arrived on time, and it contains an excellent introduction about biology, taking different subjects like DNA, photosynthesis and other concepts and simplify it in such an easy way, which makes it more understandable for a college and a high school student. The book gives a brief intro for a different subject that known as complicated once, but this book simplifies in a very professional way using graphs and pictures.

The book arrived when expected, in the condition described. The book itself is well-written and interesting enough to read that after my class is over, I will be keeping this book for myself to enjoy the rest of the chapters not covered in class.

This book has most of everything in it, however the item was listed in OK condition. The back cover is missing completely, the front cover is not attached, nor are the first 10 pages. There is also no CD in the package as the description said. The folded pages, scraped up cover and writing in the text book is what "OK" condition is. The way the book was sent didn't help things either and may have led to some additional pages being knocked out of the text. Overall, bad review.

This book was the textbook necessary to get me through my biology 100 class. Not a bad rental price, especially considering how much the college libraries charge.
But, I was under the impression that the book I purchased was the 3rd student edition. Instead I got the second teachers edition. I was initially going to return it, but luckily it has all the information I need so far, but I do recommend checking very closely what edition the seller is selling and making sure it is the edition you receive. Not every one is able to improvise with older texts and some teachers require certain editions. Overall good book. It is in good condition. Came in a decent amount time time.
