If you are headed for disability, take it from someone that has been there and back again.
You will have a difficult time finding a decent attorney.
What is a good attorney? 1) One that does not have multiple offices scattered across California 2) Wins more cases than looses 3) Works with you and helps you to set up a two year plan for wining your case. 4) Someone who has formerly worked with SSDI.
1) Suggestions for Winning: SSDI will not give you the time of day without having an attorney, this is a truism and not one that I like, but it is a fact. 2) Make sure and get every medical record you can get your hands on. I suggest ordering your records, waiting 6 months and then do it again, you will find new records. I did this 4 times over a two year period.
3) Ask each and every doctor to write you a letter regarding your condition and it's possible limitation on your life. SSDI, loves long forms and your attorney will try to brief that form and your doctor will run like hell sweeping you out of their office. Instead, ask for a clean simple letter of the doctors opinion of your condition, will it be for the rest of your life? Does it limit you in any way? What is your chance for recovery?
4) I cannot encourage you enough to find out where your local ODAR (SSDI ) hearings are held. You should be able to sit at the back of the room and watch the attorneys and their clients shuffle in and out. What you are looking for is a happy face when the disabled leaves and how each attorney treats their clients. Are the clients mud on the wall, some stick, some don't? Or does the attorney take a personal interest. Here is where you would find out.
5) Do not commit to an attorney until you know how many he has helped and won verse lost. Only watching and asking those prior and after the hearing can tell you that. Sometimes even those that work at the hearing will whisper a name to you. And know, just because an attorney wins in some areas does not mean he does well in others.

Good Luck

Good content but how can I use the thing if I can't print the forms. The book recommends having the Doctor complete the forms. Kindle will not allow printing so the book is useless unless you buy a hard copy.

I went ahead and hired a Lawer as the better Idea.

Best book of the two that I ordered on this subject. It covers a lot of details, including whether or not you should get an attorney. Highly recommended.
Delari
Clear information, would recommend it to anyone trying to assist an older relative or itself to claim benefits I recommend it
Morlurne
This book is the best I've seen regarding the harrowing process of filing for disability. It has everything you need from beginning to end and on. Read the sample.
Glei
As described, Quality and Shipment.
This is one of the better books that I have found on the subject. Book gives a thorough walk-thru of what to expect and how to handle each phase of the evaluation and appeals process. Even though the book was released in 2008, the subject matter addressed here hasn't changed significantly enough to dismiss the relevance of this book. I recommend this book to anyone who is anticipating the possibility of having to go through an appeals process.
