I've always been fascinated by World War Two, and that fascination was rekindled this past summer by my first trip to Europe, including traveling up the Rhine with stops in Dusseldorf, Cologne, Bonn, Remagen, and Bingen, all of which suffered major damage during the war, Cologne famously from the Thousand Bomber Raid.

War Damage in Western. This book attempts to counter this trend of mythologizing such damage, considering the use that wartime destruction of architecture and historical monuments had in the lowering of morale and for propaganda purposes.
