Inigo Jones was the key individual in introducing the Italian Renaissance to England. Unfortunately, events conspired against him so that his architectural efforts were minimal and even those have fared badly with many having been destroyed. He now is hidden within the shadow of his illustrious successor, Christoper Wren. This biography serves to help regain his significance. It is very thorough and well-written. It covers virtually all of his works, especially his theatrical productions with which I was unfamilar. It was a delight to read.

As a scholar of Early Modern Theater, Inigo Jones is one of the most significant importers of ideas from Italy and France. This book addresses costume, staging, and how elements of the modern proscenium made their way onto English stages. Readable and concise; I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the 1st quarter of the 17th century.

Inigo Jones is my ancestor. It was nice to get a glimpse of the man himself. Not just seeing him as another name on Ancestry.com
