The Oriental Obsession: Islamic Inspiration in British and American Art and Architecture 1500–1920. As a case study, the "Modem Chairs" exhibition, which was organized by the Circulation Department of the Victoria and Albert Museum (hereafter cited as the V&A) and held at the Whitechapel Art Gallery (hereafter cited as the WAG) in 1970, will be dealt with. The geographical purview extends from Moorish Spain in the west to British India in the east and, besides architecture, the activities that are involved include painting, ceramics, textiles, metalwork, furniture and bookcrafts.
