At Home with Johnny, June and Mother Maybelle: Snapshots from My Life with the Cash and Carter Families. I just got off the phone from calling and thanking Peggy Knight for her wonderful books on the Carter and Cash families. We have always been fans but since reading Peggy's books we have come to love Mother Maybelle, John, and June even more. It was so heart warming to gain deeper insight into the loving, caring, and giving people they all were aside from their incredible contributions to the music world. Peggy was obviously loved as much as she loved them.

Carryin' On with Johnny Cash and June Carter is an album by Johnny Cash and June Carter released in 1967 (see 1967 in music), on Columbia Records. The album consists exclusively of duets by Cash and Carter, including "Jackson"; "Long Legged Guitar Pickin' Man" (written by Cash's bass player, Marshall Grant) was also released as a single. One track, a cover of Bob Dylan's "It Ain't Me, Babe", dated back to 1964 and had previously been released on Cash's 1965 album, Orange Blossom Special.

Peggy has captured the simple moments with the Carter Cash clan that speaks volumes about their real lives. I have read the books from Marshall Grant John Carter, and the autobiographies and somehow this book ties them all together, leaving a little to read between the lines in a tasteful and respectful manner. I can see why John, June and Maybelle trusted and loved Peggy. She handled so many tough situations, and ended up writing this book with a tone of respect and love in return. She is the real deal, no doubt, and so is this book. I would love to read more from her someday.

Loved this book as much as Inside the House of Cash. Peggy Knight was the epitome of the word loyal to the Carter and Cash families. We thank her for sharing her memories and endearing Maybelle, John, and June to us even more. Please write more books about these wonderful people Peggy. Thank you!!! Vicki

Peggy Knight's "At Home With Johnny, June and Mother Maybelle" perfectly complements her other two books; sitting down with this photo album is like pulling out a cherished family album and revisiting all one's favorite people and places.

Each photograph comes with its own short anecdote, explaining where the picture was taken or what was happening at the time. Ms. Knight has assembled a remarkable collection: June checking on her flowers at her old Virginia homeplace, the last night at the Grand Ole Opry performed at the Ryman Auditorium, Johnny and June backstage after concert performances, and photos from The House of Cash in Hendersonville, Tenn.

My personal favorites are page 10 (Johnny's eyes - that intense expression), and page 66, where Johnny and George Jones share a hearty laugh over Jones' dressing like the Man in Black.

The book is not only a keeper to be viewed time and again, but would make a lovely gift for your favorite Cash fan. It makes me wish Christmas would come a little sooner.

I have known Peggy Knight for many years, and I have been struck, over and over again, by the depth of her integrity and by her unflagging devotion to John and June. That this loyalty was repaid with treachery (through no fault of John and June, by the way)is another story, for another time and forum. I would quite literally trust this woman with my life.

Her detractors have axes of their own to grind, and I suspect some of them are writing reviews. Take it from me--I was THERE when some of those pictures were taken. They're on the level, and so is Ms. Knight.

I never knew Johnny Cash had such a good sense of humor until I saw the picture of him wearing a Jamican "dread-lock hat" during what was his last Birthday party. (pg 61)
A great book of photos and stories! Peggy Knight has presented a personal insight to the lives of these music icons. She was a personal friend and valet for the family for over 34 years and has the perspective to help describe the people we only knew on stage.
The 34 years of photos in this book open our eyes to the family atmosphere of the Cash and Carter families, and help us understand who they were. Johnny, June, and all their family and friends, at work and at play, are in here. After reading / viewing the book I really felt like I knew these people better. Great Buy!

Yes, this is coming from a die hard June fan.

Hi there! I can't tell you how many times throughout the week I look at this book. It's wonderful!! It shows many great pictures with a long caption underneath it. I ahve not read any of Peggy's other books, but they are probably as good as this one!!

Love Me
I really enjoyed reading this book - we all know that Johnny had relapses with his drugs - but this book (for me) showed the happiness, and humor and love between Johnny and June - despite all. My question is - if anyone can answer it - is why John Carter Cash was so hostile to Peggy Knight? Did something happen between them that turned him against Peggy. It would be helpful to balance this out for myself.
This book is the real deal. Very sweet, touching remembrances of the great Cash, June and Mother Maybelle. Lots of never-before-seen pictures. Johnny Cash as a Rasta! Who'd-a thought that, I ask? The author has let us look into the private side of one of America's greatest heroes. He was a flesh and blood giant, and this perspective from a lady who was with him for over 30 years is intimate and special. Don't look for an encyclopedia here; this is a love letter, and that's what makes for a nice read.
