This is often very discouraging since the beginner has no conception of the practical application of such information; as a result he becomes lost and frightened in a maze of mathematical formulae. The number of instruments required depends upon the drafting skill of the student and the amount of designing to be done; to say nothing of the state of the student’s pocket-book. It is best to obtain the finest instruments possible, but for study purposes fewer and cheaper instruments may be purchased than when a great deal of designing is intended.
