Modern Curriculum Press Phonics. M. Marcella Kucia, Rosemary Murray, Charence Edward Elwell. com User, April 27, 2009. Modern Curriculum Press Phonics, Level K I used this book years ago when my older children were learning to read and write in a Montessori school and now have found it again to work with my homeschoolers. The pictures have been updated and there are more parent enrichment ideas at the bottom of most pages.

Modern Curriculum Press Phonics, Level K. If your child is struggling to understand phonics this book will be well worth the money. It is a great resource for parents, it has easy to understand instructions, and the pages can be completed quickly. Level "C" is for 3rd to 4th grade. Level "A" and "B" are for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. As a retired school teacher I find that a good understanding of phonics helps not only reading skills but writing and spelling skills. I have used modern curriculum press books B and C with my older children so thought I would get this for my 4 year old. It is very basic. Practice printing 1 letter then do a maze following that letter, circle pictures of words starting with that letter, finally say the piture, if the word begins with that picture, print it on the line. Good, basic teaching. Expensive for the quantity of material. Go for the Sams books at the K level! This is my 4th child at home and I think we have gotten equally as much from the giant books at Sams.

It is just what I need for supplemental phonics learning (consonants/vowels) for my kindergarteners. Whatever 'Letter Of The Week' the students are learning, I make a homework packet around that specific letter. The work pages add extra practice at home (letter writing & picture/sound practice; the work pages are routine enough for the kinders to figure out what to do by themselves yet varied enough to keep them interested and seek parent support if needed (I want parent involvement!). Additionally, there are little booklets that can be torn out for students to read in class or sent home for practice,as well as some poem pages. There are excellent practice pages for the vowels a,e,i, o, u. I have been using this book for several years & as homework supplemental practice, it can't be beat.

MCP Phonics is an excellent series of phonics books. The books are full-color and highly interesting to children, incorporating a wide variety of exercises to keep learning fresh. The sounds are presented in a logical sequence, each year building on the previous. I love these manuals; they have good scope and sequences to help with planning, pre- and post-tests for each unit to help you check for student understanding, and lots of teaching ideas to help students learn different concepts in a fun way.

This is a great phonics for first graders. Its primary focus is phonics, but it also incorporates context clues and high-frequency words to make it more of a total reading program. The teacher's manual has good suggestions for presenting new concepts as well as extension activities. We use many of the extended writing activities. The workbook is very colorful and engaging. It is just right...inviting and interesting without using puppets, games, songs, etc. which can be a distraction for some children. Overall I think that it is a great program for homeschool or supplement for regular school.

I know this is a workbook, but it is really the beginning of a phonics/reading system. You start with the alphabet, then progress down the line in a specific sequence until your child is reading! Love it. Found out about Modern Curriculum Press from a very experienced reading teacher. Glad the organization and curriculum is already there, already proven to work.

We tried Hooked on Phonics and my daughter yawned (age 4). Good thing I only checked it out from our local library. With all the colorful pages, she gets energized about MCP and can't wait to work on her pages! Hooray. Highly recommend. She knows almost all the alphabet by sight, now we need to work on the sounds. When we finish this workbook, I've already bought the next levels A & B.

I am mixing in Scholastic phonic activities and Bill Martin activities to reinforce lessons. Highly recommend those too. This workbook came perfectly packaged and in great condition. Shipping was fast. All around, a good transaction.

This is a good beginning level phonics books that teachers the letter sounds (as one would expect from phonics) Our daughter who was schooling at home at the time loved doing the pages in this book. She got to practice writing letters and the colorful pictures kept her attention.

This book at the Second grade level is everything it said it was. The easy tear out pages, colorful illustrations and simple directions make the students want to do it. The sturdy abc and word cards found in the back of the book with its own envelope is an added bonus!
Very good intro, review and practice book. Check the level. I think all levels are good, but the first two - or at least the first one - seems to be a bit unnecessary. I would start with B or C for a kindergartener.
