Something had clearly changed. Still, she was coming out. That had to be significant. I systematically worked down my father’s list. d my walk I would just keep the house. Like many others, Nick Corble was confused. Unsure of where his country was going, he decided to get engaged rather than enraged. Using only public footpaths, Diagonal Walking traces a walk along a unique line cut at 45 degrees through the very centre of the county. Starting just north of Liverpool and ending on the south coast of Kent, Nick passed through affluence and austerity. Writing with disarming honesty, he chronicles what he discovered, not only about his fellow countrymen, but also about the state of the nation itself as it faced its greatest challenge for generations.

I recently fell in love with many books about narrow bots and the canals of the UK. Most of them were about the trials and tribulations of owning a narrow boat, living on one and the culture of the narrow boat owners but, this one went into greater detail about the history of the canal system which I found to be fascinating. The author attempts to link the cultural differences from village to town.
I was interested to read this somewhat older book to compare the impressions this author had to those of other authors of more recently published books that I've read on narrowboating. It appears that things on the cut have improved in the last 10+ years!
