Pellucidar is a fictional Hollow Earth invented by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs for a series of action adventure stories. In a crossover event between Burroughs's series, there is a Tarzan story in which he travels into Pellucidar. The stories initially involve the adventures of mining heir David Innes and his inventor friend Abner Perry after they use an "iron mole" to burrow 500 miles into the Earth's crust

This book is dedicated to just one world of Mr. Burroughs', namely Pellucidar. Pellucidar is a hollow world within a world, where dinosaurs, cave men, macabre half-beast tribes and pirates make their abode, and a sun (suspended in the atmosphere) casts an eternal daylight on the world.

Firstly, I would like to say that a lot of the internet links in this book no longer work, for me anyway, which was disappointing as I was interested in what they had to offer.

There are many subjects to browse such as: Languages, Family Trees, Beliefs, Hollow Earth, Films and Television and lots more. The two maps, and Book Summaries, would be welcomed by the new fans of Pellucidar as they are well detailed.

The 'Cast of Characters' section in the glossary is also cut up into subjects like: Book Titles, Beasts, Races and Tribes and last Other Terms. I just can't make up my mind if this was the best way, or doing it in the encyclopedia form.

It is still an excellent work by David Critchfield and I would recommend it as a reference for those who wish to know about Pellucidar. I give this book four stars as it only the first edition.
