The Humble Essay introduces and guides actual student writers through the process of writing college essays. It's designed for use in an introductory English composition class. Unlike other essay handbooks, this one is written to students who wisely have intention of becoming English majors. These students need to write essays for other classes but have use for the comp/rhet jargon of the day. If these are your students, then The Humble Essay may t be the worst book for your class.

THE HUMBLE ESSAY presents the basics of formal writing with an informal style that college students are not only willing but able to read.

I'll be completely honest. This isn't a book I picked because I was genuinely interested in it. I had to get it for an online class. However, I still think that among the books I've had to read for school that weren't fiction, it's one of the better ones.

I bought this book as a kindle edition for one of my classes because it was the most cost effective choice, and I wish that more of my required text books were available in this format. That being said, even though this book was required for my class I did enjoy reading it. The author writes in a way that makes learning about writing essays fun and engaging, and the knowledge that the book contains is vital for being successful at writing good college essays.

This book does a great job of explaining what it is to write a college essay, and it does so in a humorous and very readable way. As a rule, I tend to dislike How-To sort of books or any non-fiction I'm required to read for a college class, but I'm actually looking forward to getting all the way through this book. If you're interested in improving your writing or writing great argumentative essays (not persuasive--the book explains the difference), then this book is a great choice.

Textbook, required for school. Was all right. Lighter language, less "textbooky" sounding, but didn't get a lot out of it

Had this as a textbook and I thought it was going to be a drag. until the first chapter! good book. Probably the most fun textbook I've had

Makes learning fun!! The author is hilarious, and uses his humor, to keep you interested and engaged.
It had some good information in it, but the commentary was awful. I think the author was trying to be funny, and it just wasn't. We had to read the introduction, thanks professor and that started me and Mr. Humble on the wrong foot. He spoke to the students as if we were idiots and didn't understand his introduction to the professors. I found it very demeaning and not professional. I am sure there are plenty of people that may not understand what he wrote, doesn't give him the right to make fun of them. Be respectful.
