The basic premise of this book is that for the first followers of Jesus the resurrection was the event that shaped the reality of a new world. No longer did death hold dominion over life. The old order of sin was defeated, giving way to new creation in Jesus. This reality is as close at hand for us today as it was for those believers nearly 2000 years ago.

There are several important topics that Pahl develops in the book, which can be seen in the table of contents. It offers a clear and concise introduction to the key points Christian belief through the lens of the resurrection, the event on which all of Christianity hinges.

Many will appreciate Pahl's inclusion of debates around certain issues while still pointing to where the core of belief lays and the space in which disagreement is going to continue.

Though at times the book trends towards using technical terminology there is a handy glossary in the back, enabling the reader not only to benefit from breadth of the content but also the expanded lenses through which it can be understood. Furthermore, there are guiding thoughts and accompanying questions for each chapter, which make this book a great tool for fresh students of the faith and its seasoned teachers.

I am not sure if I have ever encountered a text that is so pregnant with meaning and depth in such a simple and concise form. For those who have studied these topics over the course of a lifetime, each sentence will awaken the knowledge within you in a refreshing way. For those who may be encountering the contents of Christianity for the first time, this text does well to lay the foundation for future understanding.
