The Gospel, of course, is the sum of the message of the Christian Faith, and . As the Romanian Orthodox writer Fr.

The Gospel, of course, is the sum of the message of the Christian Faith, and especially the good news that Christ has saved mankind from the eternal consequences of sin, that He has overcome the central problem of the world - death, both bodily and spiritual - by means of His Incarnation, Death, and Resurrection. Of course, we should read Orthodox books by some contemporary authors also, because they distill the teaching of the Fathers and bring it to bear on modern concerns.

In Christianity, the gospel, or the Good News, is the news of the coming of the Kingdom of God (Mark 1,Mark 1:14-15). The message of good news is described as a narrative in the four canonical gospels. The message of good news is described as theology in many of the New Testament letters.

Preparing to Hear the Gospel proposes a natural theology that prepares the way for Christian faith, so is neither apologetic for Christianity, nor a natural substitution for it. It draws on philosophical insights from Wittgenstein to argue for a practical, non-foundational understanding which is neither theoretical knowledge of God, nor immediate consciousness of God. The author points out that natural form of life impresses a common morality that functions to prepare the way for the gospel, much as the natural law did for Reformation theology, and the moral life did for Kierkegaard. He concludes that natural theology leads us to the reality of an 'unknown God' or to the 'hidden God.' In this way, the book prepares for the good news of God's redemption which frees humanity from the power of death for new life.
