I gave this novel 5 stars because of the depth of the novel. It takes you on a different path with primarily the same people adding a few new ones in the mix.
It seems that they were more than one unforgiving temper---1) George Wickham, 2) Aunt Catherine, 3.Lord Grissholm, 4) Mrs. Anne Younge..
Hatred and misunderstanding can change people to do bad things. Then there were a few good people that come to their rescue and help out, no matter with or without benefit--ie, Darcy,Colonel Richard, Molly the maid at Lord Grissholm's home.
Darcy's everlasting love for Lizzy was proven when he looked for her and went over 300 miles to find her when she disappeared. Now that is true love when you spend months looking for someone.
Lydia is forced to marry George Wickham in the story and Wickham winds up abusing Lydia and he eventually dies in a run away carriage when he falls underneath it and it rolls over him. In the same accident, Mrs. Younge has legs and ribs broken while they are trying to abduct Lizzy after Jane's wedding.
Lord Grissholm, Wickham and Aunt Catherine all work together to keep Lizzy from Darcy but the plan after months fails. Darcy then gets Lizzy to safety.
Lady Catherine goes nutsy and her brother the Earl has her put somewhere where know one will know what happens to her.
All in all, it was a very interesting read with trials and tribulations all around and as you read, you hope that the two lovers get together and they really do marry! The ending is the way it is supposed to end.
Gail Head did an excellent job keeping me interested in the novel. Looking forward to the next one of her writings.

I would have selecetd a 4.5 for this book because it is better than a 4 and not quite a 5. It is a fast-paced, far from the norm variation that FINALLY has a story other than the over-written love life between Darcy and Elizabeth. Is it reasonable? Some of the other reviewers say that it is not consistent with the times, but, in history, evil and revenge are the oldest of notions so it is not at all unrealistic, though a bit far fectched, as many a good fiction tale is. Yes they are separated for much of the book, but I do like how fast this story was. I read the first three hundred pages in the first sitting because it was so very shockingly not what was expected so that when the first hint at something finally heading in the right direction happened, I was able to close my eyes comforted that all was right in the world again. If you enjoy variations in which the author is allowed to be an actual author rather than a regurgitatior, this one is worth your time!

I swore off giving reviews when I noticed I was too critical. The authors are really trying to get it right. Well, Gail Head has got it right! What a fun, exciting, romantic story. As other reviewers did, I did... Couldn't put it down, reading to the early hours of the morning. I would have liked Darcy and Elizabeth in more romantic scenes. They were apart for most of the book but I still rooted for them. Gail Head states it took her 2 years to complete this book. I hope she is completing another right now. She is now on my favorite P&P author's list. Buy the book it's worth every penny.

This is a fun take on Pride and Prejudice. It has a more modern feel and structure than the original - starting in the thick of action rather than slow character building, scenes with more intense action, etc. - which might even make it more enjoyable for the reluctant reader. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any P&P fan looking for a more dramatic version of Elizabeth and Darcy's story. You will still wonder if they will end up together!

What a refreshing, well crafted "alternate ending" Pride and Prejudice story! At first, the idea sounded a bit alarming for Elizabeth and the Bennets, and in truth, many of the reactions, actions and words of the characters were either out of character or not aligned with the period; however, the characters, as the author conceived, were so well crafted and consistent, that the story drew me in and kept me wondering what would happen next. The ending, while not wholly unsurprising, was also not predictable. Well done!

I know I've got a top notch book in my hands when I am up until 4 in the morning because I can't put the book down. It was interesting and well written all the way through. Unfortunately, once I got about halfway through the book I couldn't put it down. You are taken on a roller coaster of twists and turns that keep you turning page after page. An easy read, I would highly recommend it.
This novel is not only a great P&P alternate but also a gripping mystery story. Something is always happening in the plot of the novel and the storyline is original. Of the dozens of P&P alternates and sequels I've read this is easily one of the best of the lot. Highly recommended.
