I am the type of person who buys all the books in a series just so I can find out how it ends and this series was no exception. This book picked up right where Kindred had ended. Devon had healed the worst of Cassie’s injuries but it still wasn’t enough so he rushed her to the hospital. Since there were many questions from the doctors about what happened and how she has survived, Devon needed to use his mind control to change what they saw.

Once Cassie’s friends all arrive, it hits them what Devon is and they first instinct is hatred and killing him. They all have different opinions, but they come to terms with one another for Cassie’s sake. The true reason Cassie’s friends have accepted Devon is because of how alive and happy she is with him around. She is no longer going through the same motions every day since meeting him. Cassie’s grandmother took a liking to Devon immediately and told them they all need to stay close to him as he will protect all of them. While Cassie learns more about Devon’s past, she gains a new friend but she also gains a few enemies.

You meet two of Devon’s friends from the past, Julian and Isla. I really enjoy what happens and their reunion… I don’t want to say more and completely give it away, but wow! When you read this book focus on the details of Cassie’s eyes and every detail about her because it is important.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to start the next book in the series!

This one picks up exactly where the last one left off with Devon racing Cassie somewhere to try and save her life after the encounter with Julian. By now there is an undeniable attraction between the two, one that cannot and will not be ignored. Cassie has realized that Devon is a vampire, but she eventually realizes that he poses no threat to her or her friends, and they decide to work together to take down Julian. In this book the bond between Melissa, Chris, Cassie, Luther, and Lily becomes more apparent and Cassie's aversion to Devon becomes a little more understandable as we get to know her better. Julian makes another appearance in this book, along with another figure from Devon's past. There is also a new development on Cassie's condition of being a hunter with no abilities (though it doesn't reveal the reason in this book. You'll have to stick around if you want to find out). Warning: there is heart break in this book.

Okay from book one, we leave off with a cliffhanger of Cassie's life hanging in the balance to death. Spoiler alert: she doesn't die (but close) but our hero Devon gets her help in time. We get to see Devon and Cassie fall deeper in love and we meet Julian, an old friend of Devon's from book one. Yeah, Julian is a real piece of work. Wait until you meet Isla. So as we learn more about our favorite characters (like Devon's previous girlfriends amongst other things), we run into Dani. What an amazing person! We discover a truth about her and her older brother, who is a jerk and abandons Dani. Cassie once Miss Popular becomes an outcast through her dating Hot & Sexy Devon. It gets more interesting as Dani becomes enfolded into the Hunters world and partially adopted by Lily, Cassie's grandma. So sad the ending on this book. Thank goodness there is a book 3, and 4 and 5. Haha. Tragedy happens to our beloved Hunters and their Guardian, Luther. Cassie's persona changes from the trauma but we are forced to read the next book to find out what happens next.

All of these books rank the same star level (4 stars). I found the concept of each book awesome. Too me, it was unique and an excellent idea. There were a few points I didn’t like about each book, but that was to be expected. Overall, each book built upon the one before it, creating a world with vampires and hunters that I didn’t want to see come to an end. I can only hope that Erica Stevens’ other books are as good as these were – and maybe we even visit the same worlds with new characters. I plan on trying one of her other series in the near future to see if maybe my wish for more of this particular world is ful-filled.

Great story! I was so enthralled I actually cried at the end! I love the characters! The story reminds me a bit of Buffy, but there are enough differences to make it its own story! I can't wait to find out what caused the entire student body to hate her so much! It must be supernatural in its origins! And I hope Mark gets what he deserves! What did Chris see in him? Is there another type of supernatural being in this story we haven't seen yet? Did he do the supernatural whammy on Cassie?

Thank you to the editors! I found some mistakes, but only a handful. Lately I have read a lot of books that had sloppy editors, so this was a nice surprise! Thank you for being so good at editing! A bad editing job really distracts from the story!

Once I read the first book, I bought the next one and the next one as I could not wait to find out how Cassie was dealing with the fact that she was in love with the enemy. Despite the facts about where her powers come from, she was struggling with Devon's past and the lack of information she had almost like he was too ashamed to divulge his secrets. Ancient evil was stalking her and she knew that the hunters were not strong enough to fight and overcome the vampires and they needed Devon to keep them safe. All she wanted was one night to feel like a normal girl at the homecoming dance but even that simple pleasure was denied her. Fighting for her life against Julian she is blind sided when a vampire from Devon's past comes back into his life. Faced with confronting Devon about the truth, she is not sure that their love will survive it yet she longs to trust him. A devastating loss rips away her humanity and she becomes as cold and vengeful as her enemy, turning from those she loves and embracing the hatred within. Will she become like that which she hunts, can Devon find a way to save her before she sacrifices her heart and her life?
