The Israel Physical Society’s annual conference will take place on December 17th at the Technion with the participation of physicists from all over the world. Among the subjects to be presented at the conference: the regional particle accelerator recently inaugurated in Jordan, the discovery of an enormous black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy, and the theory of gravity as a power source. At 18:15, there will be a lecture open to the general public: Prof. Leading physicists from around the world will participate in the conference. The conference’s main speakers will be
Solar, thermoelectric, aeolian, biomass, nuclear energy and climate are some of the subjects that will be treated. Deadline for application: 30 April 2019.
The magnetic cataclysmic variables (mCVs) are a small but astrophysically important class of X-ray source
The magnetic cataclysmic variables (mCVs) are a small but astrophysically important class of X-ray source . This paper discusses some of the work carried out by the author and his collaborators on these objects, which were discovered as part of various optical identification programs of both X-ray and extreme ultraviolet sources observed by the HEAO-1 and ROSAT satellites. Definitions are given of the two classes of mCVs; the Polars and the Intermediate Polars. The reasons why mCVs are significant sources of X-ray and EUV radiation are also discussed.
