The many advances which have been made in the Quaternary geology of Britain in the last decade or so are brought forward in an attempt to provide a framework of classification of the Quaternary succession. The principles of such a classification are discussed, and the classification made is based mainly on the alternation of cold and temperate stages in East Anglia.
