I just read an interesting new book by Alicia Morgan called "The Price of Right: How the Conservative Agenda Has Failed America (and Always Will)" - a timely message right now, but let's hope it does not remain so always. If you read a lot of progressive political books, this one may seem a bit repetitive. Chapter One retells a Thom Hartmann theory about liberals as hunters and conservatives as farmers. Chapter Two is the early development of advertising techniques.

Wake up America! And this book will awaken the sleeping Democrat with-in. It is time for America to wake up to what is really going on in our Country. I always though of myself as a conservative/Republican. Not anymore! This book is a real eye and heart opener! The agenda set forth by the Republican party and the Christian right wings( who have prostituted themselves with the repubs) all makes sense to what is going on right beneath our noses...and the smell of corruption will take years to go away.Buy 100 copies and give them to friends. This book is a secret treasure for all who want to wake up and smell the roses of change and move on to better days.

I'm grateful to Alicia for spelling it out with such intelligent simplicity. The book is beautifully crafted, cohesive and completely understandable. The conservative agenda in its convoluted misleading, covert and deceitful practice is unraveled, exposed and in fact "Busted" This book is so "In the Pocket" I loved it!

A side note: I finished the book yesterday and woke up this morning with a new President, a new hope and excitement once again for a brighter future in America.

With Respect and best wishes for you Alicia and your family,

This book is an eye opener. In order to write it, Alicia Morgan must have read deep political essays and fat political books that, for me, would be the equivalent of reading Chinese. I myself, would rather poke my eyes out with steel rods than to have to wade through such cumbersome references as those. Thank Gawd for Alicia, now I don't have to do it. Okay, not that I would. I have felt very helpless regarding the policies of our government's current administration, and have felt a shift in values that I felt did not reflect our American Constitution. I have never been a political person, but in the last few years, my gut has told me that too many things are wrong these days in America. Where has the middle class gone to? Are we looking at a future of only poor and wealthy Americans? Alicia's book made me understand the whys and wherefores that have led us, as a nation, to the brink of bankruptcy and the deployment of power to those who would use our system to fatten their personal empires at the expense of the American people. Do yourself a favor and read this book. It was shocking to me to learn of these rules and regulations and deregulations and doctrines that have been implemented, that have contributed to the change in our country, and about which I was so uninformed. It was an easy read and I was not able to put the book down until I finished it. Read and dig a little deeper into what is at the root of our country's troubled times. The language is simple and written, not by a politician or someone who has something to sell, but by one of us. Us. Meaning everyday people who work hard to get ahead and keep falling behind. These are some very scary fiscal and political days and I am hoping that we can recover from them. Sometime in the hopefully near future...

This book is a must-read study of how the neocon movement has driven America into the ground by creating and perpetuating a number of destructive myths about this country: Trickle-down economics, America is a Christian nation, people are poor by choice because they are lazy, etc etc.
Alicia Morgan dissects each of these myths -- plus a lot more -- and shows in historical detail how each one has been made up out of whole cloth by the so-called Conservative Movement. Which in its current radical form is anything but conservative -- Barry Goldwater himself would not only not recognize today's conservatives, he would also be unwelcome in their midst.
Particular to my own interests, she devotes an entire chapter, cleverly entitled "Let Us Prey", to the Radical Christianist Fundamentalists and especially to their ginned-up defensive position in the totally nonexistent "War on Christmas" waged by "secular progressives", showing how they have skillfully woven a web of lies to "prove" that they are a constantly-under-attack endangered minority.
Even though this book is, in a way, preaching to the choir (she even names her last chapter that), it nevertheless is a succinct and highly readable history-cum-exposé of the Radical Right and their plans to turn America into a nation that we progressives would not only not recognize but also not want to live in.
Highly recommended.
