I bought this book for myself right before the start of this year's NBA season to get in the mood for basketball again which is my favorite sport. This book is amazing I often thumb through the pages I remember watching KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR, OSCAR ROBINSON, JERRY WEST, WES UNSELD, PISTOL PETE, AND THE KNICKS all on free T.V. channel 9 during the 70s I was a CHICAGO BULLS fan so I rooted for BOB LOVE AND THE BULLS to beat the KNICKS, I especially like the picture of BILL RUSSELL on pages 78-79 with his championship rings, CLYDE(WALT FRAZIER) on pages 66-67 82 180-181, WILT THE STILT(WILT CHAMBERLAIN) on pages 168-169 130, and my BULLS pages 194-195 110-111 28-29 GO BULLS!!! pages 216-217 220-223. When JORDAN AND THE BULLS won their first championship I was one happy fan the first one is always the sweetest, I don't watch basketball on T.V. since I am boycotting cable television (that is another story) but I still follow and listen to games on free radio and also keep up with the NBA on my computer, this book is a must have item for any basketball fan.

"The NBA at Fifty" is a lavish celebration of the National Basketball Association's fiftieth anniversary in 1996. A visually stunning collection of photographic essays, in coffee-table format, is enhanced by some candid commentary by the players themselves, and a thoughtful introduction by David Halberstam.

The biggest single attraction of this book may be the listing of the best players of the first fifty years of the league. The choices are sure to stir a few memories and probably a few arguments. Each of the chosen gets a page, a picture, and a few quotes. Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan get their fair share of space.

The supporting essays are worthwhile, walking the reader through the league's history while providing some perspective on game preparation, game day, and after the game. Highly recommended to fans of the pro game.
