Stella Whitelaw has created a series about a woman who got kicked off a local police force. This is a mystery, but not terribly suspenseful. I adore the characters. Lacey is feisty, stubborn, and turns to comedy and a smart mouth when in doubt about anything

DI James is mostly quiet, stoic, and views Lacey as an alien from another planet. And then there the assorted quirky residents who pass in and out of the story.

Series: Jordan Lacey Mysteries (Book 8). Paperback: 186 pages. Publisher: Independently published (July 30, 2017). I 've enjoyed reading Stella Whitelaw's Jordan Lacely books this past year since I discovered them by accident while looking for another author in our library. I find them highly entertaining. She's all alone with no-one to to turn to - when she has her old passion James, an old friend and a friendly retired cop on board?) It felt as though this book was thrown together to satisfy a publisher with no concern for character development or plot inconsistencies. Sorry but this one caused much eye-rolling.

Stella Whitelaw has created a series about a woman who got kicked off a local police force. She becomes a PI and a junk shop owner. The books are full of quirky scenarios, and an often frustrating love angle. I love reading about places that I have visited in England. I've been to the South Downs, and Dorking. I can see these places in my mind's eye.

And, if anything, this one may be better than the last, Ring and Die. Jordan is regularly visiting a good friend who is in the hospital while she herself is still recuperating from an accident with a suit of armour. Even though she is tired and emotionally drained, she accepts two new cases. One is to find an elderly pensioner's stolen rabbits and chickens. Her second case is unusual in that her client, Holly Broughton, has already been acquitted of attempting to murder her husband. Even though she is innocent, the ordeal has had an adverse impact on her marriage to her older, very wealthy husband, Richard. She wants Jordan to find out who framed her and why. While working the resolution of these two cases, Jordan goes back to the pub, Medieval Hall, to see if she can find any evidence as to why the suit of armour fell from its plinth causing her injuries.

The book moves along at a quick pace right up to its satisfying conclusion. I couldn't put it down until the last page had been read. Hopefully there will be an eighth (and more) Jordan Lacey mystery in the not too distant future.
