Death of a Bachelorette: A Jane Austen Mystery. Since she started penning dialogue for Some Day My Prince Will Come - a cheesy dating show that features bachelorettes competing for the heart of Spencer Dalworth VII, a very distant heir to the British throne - Jaine's life has been a royal pain.

When freelance writer Jaine Austen is surprised with an über-luxe spa getaway, she and her feline pal Prozac are eager to hit the road and bask in a week of pampering and pedicures. But what she gets is a California fat farm in disguise, complete with celery-juice cocktails, humiliating weigh-ins, and a zero-tolerance position on carbs. Among her bulge-battling companions is Mallory Francis, a B-list movie star with a knack for making frenemies. When she's found strangled during a seaweed wrap gone awry, Jaine is hard-pressed to think of anyone who couldn't have done it. While the suspects mount faster than her hunger pangs, Jaine's search for truth, justice and contraband calories leads her straight to a cold-blooded killer--where murder may be on the menu once again. . . The plot in this one was kind of unexpected for me. I wouldn't have guessed the culprit this time. The only problems I really had with this book are that I thought it was too short and a few times it appeared that a word or two was missing from some sentences. I did, however, learn a new term, "high dudgeon". I don't often learn anything from fiction of this type, so it was a nice surprise. There was also a confusing reference to the main character that was either badly worded or a mistake that no one caught. I appreciate that this book has chapter demarcations. Chapter demarcations make it so much easier to see how close you are to the end of a chapter or to find a stopping place when you need to do so. I won't bore you with a plot summary as I know other reviewers are fond of doing that. If you liked the previous books in the series, I say you should give this one a shot. Have at it because I don't think you'll be disappointed. I can't wait for the next one.

I love this series. I especially enjoyed this story line. Love how Jaine Austen gets herself into such funny and adventurous situationa. The characters are so great. Prozac the cat and Jaines parents always give me a laugh. Has to be one of the best cozy mysteries out there.

It is unfair to criticize a book you seek out for an escape as shallow, but even the most guilty pleasures should have enough heft to justify the effort. Sadly this book does not meet that standard. Silly caricatures, forced drama and cartoonish plot lines without the biting humor that would justify such superficial treatment. Afraid I didn't finish it so it is always possible the book becomes brilliant by the end, but I'm not hopeful enough to read that far.

Purchased as gift and the person I gave it to was delighted. I believe it was well worth the price.

Jaine saved Lance from a murder coviction in the last book. So as his way to repay her good deed, he bought her a gift. It was a week long visit to an exclusive spa. However, when she arrived, the spa was not at all what Jaine expected. This latest Jaine Austen mystery by Laura Levine, will keep you laughing all the way to the bookstore to buy another! Levine's wit is peppered throughout the book. Her spoiled darling cat, Prozac's antics will keep you in stitches as well as the emails from her parents who retired to a community in Florida called, Tampa Vistas. I highly recommend this book and all in this series.
