Have immensely enjoyed all the "in-death" series by J D Robb, though I'm not a fan of her other romance-novel . Eve and her sidekick Peabody work their magic and bring the story to an end with a twist. Robb, and I do, you'll like Missing In Death.

Have immensely enjoyed all the "in-death" series by J D Robb, though I'm not a fan of her other romance-novel books. I enjoy keeping them (do all on audio, and the reader is excellent) and rereading them since they're so entertaining. Their futuristic setting is consistent and believable, and the books are fun, enjoyable and ridiculous simultaneously. 7 people found this helpful.

Love is strong as death. Whence and what art thou, execrable shape? JOHN MILTON. One. She spent the morning with a murderer. He’d been under guard in a hospital bed recovering from a near-fatal wound-courtesy of a misstep by his partner in crime-but she’d had no sympathy. She was glad he’d lived, wished him a long, long life-in an off-planet concrete cage. She believed the case she and her team had built to be solid-as did the nearly gleeful prosecuting attorney.

Narrated by Susan Ericksen. The devil killed my body. I cannot fight, I cannot find. I cannot free her. You must. You are the one. We speak to the dead. Immediately after hearing these words, uttered to her by an old Romanian woman bleeding to death in the street, detective Eve Dallas begins to notice that her latest case has come with a number of interesting side-effects: visions of the deceased, instant familiarity with rooms she's never seen before, and fluency in Russian.

Her In Death series is wonderful. Susan Ericksen’s voices get in your head. It’s about a smart/strong New York homicide detective named Eve Dallas.

Willing to do anything to make the old lady happy, Eve unknowingly makes a blood oath that will compel her to solve the mystery of the gypsy's death, and locate the Gypsy's missing but talented grand-daughter (who is an aspiring dancer).

*What I enjoyed about this in-between story of passion and betrayal was Robb's/ Nora Roberts) ability to weave the paranormal (although she does this occasionally) into this well established futuristic crime story. We all know, from following the last dozen or so "In Death" books that Eve Dallas is anything but a believer in the supernatural. However, seeing Eve accept the unexplained was extremely enjoyable. There were all the implications that Eve was possessed (by the deceased Gypsy)....he now had the ability to speak Russian and regurgitate authentic recipes...to other events that could not be explained (a tattoo of a peacock feather appearing on her ankle), which all made "Possession" an enjoyable read. I thought that this was a wonderful between story that offered an unusual twist on an old theme. It was tastefully done and even offered the reader an insightful look into what doubts law enforcement officers have as they struggle to remain encouraged after seeing some of the most horrific crimes. At the end we rejoice when Eve gets her man and all is back to normal. I can't wait until the next installment in the series to see what is happening in Eve's world, and to catch up on those characters we have all grown to know and love.

A TOTALLY "FROSTY" Series I Can't wait for the Next "Celebrity in Death Come out Feb 21,2012

I read this story some time back. Listening to the great Susan Erickson play all the parts was fun. Sometimes I think she has multiple personality disorder. She did, however, mix up the Middle Eastern accent and Rourk's sexy Irish brogue a time or two.

This is a different kind of JD Robb. There is murder, of course, and a bit of ancient Gypsy spiritualism. I think you will enjoy it. My only complaint would be that it is a short story that could have gone on much longer. I recommend it.
Vishura
I read all the In Death Series books, so it was somewhat predictable, but I love them. Susan Ericksen is a fantastic narrator, doing multiple voices and accents.
Darkraven
I love these stories. Eve and Rourke are two characters with flaws and great compatibility that complement each other.
Akisame
For the Eve Dallas-Roarke fans, it is one of the weakest books, perhaps because it is really a short story and not a full fledged book. Nevertheless, it is quite original in that Eve is possessed and since she is always so rational it is good to see her in this guise
Hugighma
I enjoyed this different type of case, but I didn't realize it was such a short book - only 3 CDs in the pack. I think Robb could have made a full-length version of the book, brought in more of the characters, and still have kept the "Possesion" going. I was disappointed.
Yainai
Great book
I have never been disappointed with an "...in Death" series installment. J. D. Robb keeps us guessing til the end - and provides humor, suspense and love along the way.
