Legend 33
Though not quite a 5, this book is easily a 4.5 and it is really well organized, cleverly plotted, and liberally clued. It is really well written with an enjoyable/interesting group of characters and great descriptions of various locations. The dialog is generally spirited with only a bit of disbelief and most of the characters are credible. Actually virtually all the characters are quite likable as well although there are a blackguard or two. There are a lot of threads in this and each is reasonably well resolved. This is a more complex story from Ms. Wentworth than many of her mysteries. I prefer her non Miss Silver titles for many reasons (do we need to have one more description of her appearance and her somewhat faded "spinster clothes" and the jewelry that she wears?) and if would make a wonderful movie!
I have read a lot of Miss Silver stories, and this is the first Frank Abbot one, and I really enjoyed it as I thought I would. The characters were good and the story had many twists and turns, so many that you didn't know which was the right one. An oldie but a goodie
Recommended for anyone who has read miss silver mysteries or who enjoys English classic domestic mysteries. Great portrayal of village life
Looking for a good read on a misty, rainy night? Here it is, cozy mystery, bit of romance, lot of puzzle.
Pleasant mystery as usual for Wentworth, but missing the satirical edge which is often found in her work. Comes off as formulaic but still nice.
Enjoyed this book very much. Wish there were more like Patricia Wentworth wrote. As far as I know I've read all her mysteries. I think they are some of the best.
You won't get bored with this page turner. As always, Wentworth serves up an exciting mystery with so many red herrings and surprises you'll want to plan ahead to read in one sitting!
Another good boom by Patricia Wentworth. While thw miss Silver mysteries are my favorite, here her police friends, Lamb and Abott manage without her. Still a great read. Compelling characters and good plot.
