The Enemy Within book. A new direction from Noel Hynd, and I liked it ! After reading two or three of his previous books, I had come to see Mr Hynd as a writer of good Historical Fictions, but, with this book, he has shown me that he functions equally as well in contemporary Fiction.

He had the time coming and his juice within the Roman police department was diminishing day by day, even with the recently approved sixty-day extension of his duties. He thought about the whole situation.

I don’t want to know anything about him, Rizzo said, cutting her off with a wave of his hand. He had the time coming and his juice within the Roman police department was diminishing day by day, even with the recently approved sixty-day extension of his duties. What he could use, he decided, was a good reason for being out of town. So he asked Sophie if she might want to accompany him on a business trip.

It is early summer of 2009, an uneasy time in the American capital. Washington is tense over a showdown between the United States and the new ruler of Libya.Laura Chapman is a U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to the White House. She is quirky, solitary, and frequently unorthodox. She is sexy and fit, adept with a pistol as well as with a hundred-pound Everlast bag. But she is also a brilliant intelligence analyst. That’s why she has been assigned to the Presidential Protection Detail for the past eleven years. The CIA assigns Laura to a case that borders on the unthinkable: an assassination plot against the new president. Shockingly, the trigger man will be a member of the United States Secret Service.Since the CIA knows that the assassin is male, Laura is not a suspect. The odds are heavily against her locating an alleged assassin within the Service, and even more heavily against her surviving the assignment.Beyond that, problems abound: First, because of her age and gender, members of the Service as well as agents in the CIA and FBI are waiting for her to fail. Second, Laura’s personal life is in disarray, and her secret drinking is about to get out of hand. Third, the hit is scheduled to take place on July 4, 2009, in the Oval Office. Less than two weeks from now. As her investigation proceeds, Laura cannot shake the suspicion that there are things she has not been told, that she is being set up. . . . In her increasingly frequent moments of paranoia, she wonders: Am I going to be the new Lee Harvey Oswald?

This is what a thriller is supposed to be. From the very first page to the tremendously satisfying end, The Enemy Within fills all the requirements of a great novel. This was my first Noel Hynd book and be sure that it will not be the last. Sometimes a reader can be intimidated to make a choice of a 550+ page book. This is a long read, yes, but is one that seems to make the pages just fly as the story is told.

But you can be sure that this is one that will keep you totally involved with the wonderfully crafted characters and intricate but easily followed story line. Washington politics and law enforcement women and men take the reader on a journey from various locations in the USA to Libya, Mexico, and places beyond to weave a tale that concludes with a conclusion that not only makes you hold your breath, but also one that gives a great sense of closure and finality.

All in all, a great read. One of those "keepers" that you just know will be read again when you need something really, really worthwhile. Don't miss The Enemy Within.

A who done it spy story crossing continents. Evidences the bureaucracy of government that prevents/allows intrusion and assassination. Left hand right hand secrecy why things go wrong. Well written and chapter's headings set the tone. Not too long. Left with some questions. May need a rereading to satisfy.

This is the fifth espionage story I have read by this author. They have all been good, including this book. However, at approximately 74% into the story, an incident happens that turns it into a 3 stooges, ludicrous happening. Laura and Rick, up close and personal with the blond guy were like a bunch of idiots. A serious story turned into a farce. It took away from the rest of the book.

You just can't guess what's going to come and what direction it will come from. Quite a good book, but the grammatical and punctuation errors were really distracting.

A F.B.I. employee is recruited to stop the shooting of the President of the US. She is required to work alone. The storyline is about how this woman works to crack this case before the date the unknown killer is scheduled to commit the murder.

I found the story a little long winded at times but liked the way she worked out the problems in spite of the political B.S. I also enjoyed the suspense.

It was an enjoyable read.

I would have given 5 stars but there were quite a number of editing misses. The story is long and somewhat slow and repetitive in places but the author keeps you engaged enough to keep going. Overall I enjoyed the story and highly recommend.

I greatly enjoyed this book on Kindle. It was fast paced but the plot still developed throughout the story. Interesting psychological twists inside the mind of the chief protagonist made it continuously surprising and suspenseful. Overarching theme of the potential for terrorism within the United States and infiltration of our "spy" agencies. I definently recommend this book to anyone who likes stories containing political intrigue and espionage.
A good read. Very in-tune with today's DC. I enjoyed the story and recommend it. Twists and turns to keep the book in my hands until the end.
