Simon Dell MBE is one of the most sought-after public speakers in the county with talks on a range of themes from his vast historical knowledge of Dartmoor, Lundy and local policing through to his adventures in Tibet and across the world’s most fascinating mountain ranges. He is also a keen walking guide giving fellow walkers a great understanding of the environment around them and bringing each and every walk alive. Simon has written a large number of books about Dartmoor and Lundy Island.

The first walk is targeted specifically at the day-tripper and includes most of the interesting features to see on a day’s stroll. With clear and concise directions and maps it has a wealth of photographs and information to ensure you get the most out of your trip. Walks two and three are further extensions up to the north of the island via the west and east sides.

Simon Dell fell in love with Lundy Island on his first visit at the age of 8, and has been returning on a regular basis for the past 40 years. He leads guided walks there, and is a member of the Lundy Field Society. He is a Dartmoor National Park Guide, a member of the National committee of the Police History Society, and a member of the Devon & Cornwall Police Museum Committee.

Simon Dell visits Lundy every year. The island is a granite outcrop, rising 400ft up. A stiff but reasonably short climb from the jetty takes you to the village with its welcoming Marisco Tavern, Post Office and shop and information point. Despite being only three miles long and half a mile wide there are several routes you can take from here. It's possible to see all of the island on a day trip, but to really explore and have time to linger, it's better to decide beforehand which aspects of the landscape, flora or fauna you really want to take in and plan accordingly.

Lundy: A Landmark 50 Years. In 1968 Mr Albion Harman, the last owner of Lundy Island, in the Bristol Channel, died. His surviving two sisters, faced with a challenging future running the island, put Lundy up for auction. An appeal fund for £150,000 was started but unfortunately this failed. At the last minute of the auction Jack Hayward (later Sir Jack Hayward) bid the asking price and bought the island
