Jason Hawkes, Britain's leading aerial photographer, has been taking to the skies with his camera for more than fifteen years. In this, his latest collection, he has trained his camera on the familiar and less familiar parts of London. Familiar parts of the city take on a new dimension when viewed from above, and this book lets you see landmarks as you've never seen them before. Each photograph is accompanied by informative text from leading travel author Donna Dailey. Donna has written several books on London and gives each picture an extra dimension with an extended caption.

Publisher: Barnes & Noble Books, 2007. Aerial views show that London is not one, but many cities grouped together. There are the modern skyscrapers of the City and the stately palaces of Westminster, which testify to the City's regal magnificence.

He shot his first book, London from the Air, for Random House aged just 23 which went on to sell over 160,000 copies. Once the commissions started coming in he switched to helicopters and has used them ever since. The aerial photography needs concentration, high power cameras, a professional pilot of a helicopter who can fly the helicopter to catch or a glimpse of the beautiful pictures. London was born in San Diego, the son of Debbie London (née Osborn), a waitress, and Frank London, a sheet metal worker. He was raised in Wanette, Oklahoma, and in DeSoto, Texas. His identical twin brother Jeremy is also an actor.

Allowing us to travel mid-air through London, these photographs lead us to a thoroughly new appreciation of a city that has always been foremost in people's imagination. The city of the great English novelists is sure to be found, but these splendid aerial photographs show us a complex city of contrasts that is also home to Europe's most ethnically diverse population. An urban cluster without regular order, the city is actually a collection of villages that grew up around Roman Londinium, and today each has its own history, character, architecture, and even rhythm - and all are illustrated in the beautiful photographs. In these pages, Westminster and the modern skyscrapers in the City bear witness to London's regality and power. There are also the Georgian terraces in the rich West End and the recent architectural experiments on the South Bank and in the Docklands, where museums, restaurants, clubs, and bars have replaced the old wharves and warehouses. The East End, the boroughs of Kensington and Chelsea, the green villages that line the Thames between Greenwich and Hampton, and small neighbourhoods that seem lost in time all come to life in these sumptuous pages. Readers will be sure to savour this book, discovering new itineraries upon each reading. Printed on high quality gloss paper this new title in the "High Above" series, contains breathtaking photography.

This is one of my favorite photographers of London because he gives such a unique perspective. This has lots of great pictures and explanations and its a great book for anyone who has visited London or who wants to know more about the city. I have purchased other books by Jason Hawkes as well and none have disappointed. This is one of the best for a basic overview of London from above the city, as few can see it.
Well sized, on the large size, with well chosen photographs, unlike some other aerial city photographs book I've bought (Berlin aus der luft, let's name it).

It's really worth buying.
Wonderful gift and a new way for me to remember London.
